Founded in 2020, Recreational Pots and Plants® (a subsidiary of Cleveland Plants, LLC) started when proprietor Lori Switaj acquired a few plants and sold them one weekend at Duke Farms Community Garden in Cleveland's Detroit Shoreway neighborhood. Switaj, and her husband Cleveland Judge Timothy McCormick, have managed Duke Farms, a 30-bed boutique community garden (complete with a "farmhouse") since 2017.

Switaj, whose green thumb was genetically passed on by her mother Rachel, thought it was time to take it a step further and expanded her green agenda to include a plant store.

Aiming to create a store with interesting but easy-to-care-for houseplants and unique pots to put them in, they settled on "Recreational Pots and Plants," the brainchild of McCormick,  "We chose this name since caring for houseplants shouldn't be a chore," Switaj said.

The store utilizes plants from four Northeast Ohio certified nurseries and one large national Florida nursery. In addition to large pots and planters secured from a national company, Switaj also curates hand-painted and designed terra cotta and ceramic pottery from several Cleveland area artists.

As a result, customers can put together pots and plants to create pieces that serve not just as houseplants, but decorative items. Believing that  "your home is your oasis," Recreational Pots and Plants sells items including high quality scented candles, soaps and bath bombs from Lakewood, Ohio's own STEM Handmade Soaps. Cleveland Ketchup was also added to their items in September 2021.  All products are affordably priced. Stop in today at 4736 Lorain Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio in Cleveland's Ohio City neighborhood.
